The Real Fishermen
The real fishermen are out on the grounds, ready for the season to get started tomorrow. I'm talking about the guys who fish to put fresh salmon in your local markets and the canneries, so you and I can enjoy a can of the best salmon in the world, Alaska wild salmon. They happen to be the guy next door, your buddy at the local watering hole or just somebody you know. They work as seine boat owners, crews, boat captains, gillneters and trollers.
The gillneters have been fishing since Father's Day and the trollers started the several weeks ago. The big boys(seiners) of Southeast fishing start on the 6th in several areas close to K-town. For the last few weeks some of the local seiners have been working the web(mending the net) and getting the seine skiffs prepared for the season. If you ever have the opportunity to actually watch a seine boat make a set, it with be something you won't forget every soon, believe me. You will appreciate the guys who caught the fish more and some how the fish tastes a little better. So, be sure to thank that fisherman, for the effort he puts forth to make your bar-b-cue a little fresher. Ooooohh, I've made myself hungry, think I'll fix the fish I got from my buddy this morning and throw it on the bar-b. If your in the neighborhood stop by,there'll be plenty. Till later: K-townking
