75lb Halibut

Last weekend my daughter and her family went out for some fun on the water. Boy,did she have some FUN. She had signed them up in the Halibut Derby going on in K-town and this was the last day of the Derby. The week before my grandson, he's 4, caught an 11 lb'er that they entered. Now, my daughter is not an avid fisherwoman, but she does enjoy being out with her family taking in the beauty and the abundant resources, like most of us that call SE. Alaska home, also enjoy. As the story was relayed to me, they were on the verge of calling it a day, when the line took off and the fight was on. It took a good half hour to land the fish. She'd reel and off the fish would go, she'd get it to the boat and down it went. She'd reel and reel, fight and fight some more, but finally she wore that fish out and brought it close enough to the boat, that her hubby could get the gaff into the fish(he said he almost lost it) and pull it in the boat. Well, they got it to the weigh in station and she said that she couldn't believe that it weighed 75.2 lbs. Needless to say that's a lot of good eating there. I would like to thank her for remembering her ol' dad and sharing that mouth watering, great tasting halibut. Nothing better than fresh fish. Till Next Time: K-townking
