Bridge Fishing
This time of year the salmon start to run up the Ketchikan Creek. It starts off with just a few King salmon making the return to the place of their birth. As the summer continues and the salmon return by the thousands, there is a right of passage that takes place at the Stedman St bridge, O.K., maybe not a passage, but darn close. It's fishing from the bridge for the salmon as they enter the creek to return to the hatchery.I know many dads and moms that have taken their sons and daughters and have introduced them to fishing off the bridge. This can be very interesting and more than a little DANGEROUS. You must watch out when the folks are making their casts out into the creek, or you'll be the one getting hooked and not the salmon. Just ask K-towns x-mayor. A few years back he was on the bridge one day and forgot to duck when one of the fisherman cast. He got hooked. He was so upset, that he attempted to ban fishing on the bridge. K-town would have none of that. Needless to say, he gave in to public pressure and fishing from the Stedman St. Bridge continues to this day, but hurry the fish are only here for a couple more months. Fish-On: K-townking
